The "freshhh2008", our great on-line competition finally finished.
For 40 days, from February 29th until early April, over 800 students from 29 countries were competing in three rounds for the qualification to participate in the Live Final.
Let us ‘refreshhh’ the memories.
50 questions in 5 series of tests. Chemistry-, Physic-, Upstream- and Downstream related questions and fine Logical puzzles were destined to measure the aptitude, openness and perseverance of the competitors. Was it too easy or too difficult? This was the question we tried to guess for weeks before.
Teams had to prove their talents how to manage a virtual Downstream - Petchem Company. Teams built their model, adopted decisions, developed strategies, ensured the required quality while refined crude oil throughout 21 days…and produced a variety of games.
How we chose the teams for the Round#3 – Creative Writing Task?
- At first we chose the best 21 teams according to the aggregated result from both Quiz and Simulation Round (because of equal scores)
- Then the 10 best teams from the Simulation Round (who are not in the previous selection)
- Finally we chose the 10 best teams from the Quiz Round (not belonging to the previous selections)
In a word - 41 teams qualified themselves to the Creative Round.
In the Round#3 teams had to prepare two written works. The topic of the task was very interesting.
The teams got 8 days for completing the task and we received really useful and valuable pieces of work.
We appointed 12 senior and experienced MOL managers to read, evaluate and score the works and analyse the ideas embedded or presented in the documents.
We published the list of the authors of the best 10 creative works and they were invited to the grand finale at Budapest through the homepage of the competition.
The two reading hall of the Hotel Marriott offered a proper environment for the final of the international competition.
The 10 participating teams came from Hungary (6), Romania (1) and Slovakia (3). 90% of them were coming from engineering background (mainly chemical, miner and geologists).
What was happened during the FINAL?
Each team prepared a 10-minute presentation promoting their profession for secondary school/university students as an important contributor to oil and gas/petchem industry.
During the afternoon the 10 teams had to face with challenging tasks in order to show their way of thinking, problem solving ability,
how they work in teams and how they handle working under pressure and information overflow.
The jury had the opportunity to see and observe these young talents during a robot building
and a technical problem solving task and hear their reaction to business related prompt test questions.
Again the same question in us during the preparation: too easy or too hard?
According to the feedback from the participants the tasks were difficult and challenging.
Have fun and good luck in the future! :)
